Where are we now?
Tutors4Stars-ACT is recognized as its own organization with a unique mission. We are not limited only to tutoring, but we also provide camps, write advocacy blogs, post information on Instagram, and Lisa hosts her own tutorials page on our site to provide free exercises to neurodiverse individuals, which usually cost money. Our goal is not only to educate the neurodiverse community, but to also educate the neurotypical community and make them aware of neurodiversity. We strive to forge connection within the neurodiverse community through our camps, and connection between neurodiverse and neurotypical communities through volunteer work and advocacy.
How did we start?
Current President and Founder of Tutors4Stars-ACT Lisa Pan originally branched off from Tutors4Stars, an organization originally founded by Courtney Wong, a graduated student from Torrey Pines High School, and established a chapter at The Bishop’s School. She began neurodiversity advocacy because of her autistic older brother, Lawrence, who she has been taking care of for her entire life, his friends, and other community members, who she has also grown up meeting. She was inspired by her life experiences to serve the neurodiverse community, even before founding Tutors4Stars-ACT. Wong’s original organization strictly tutored students online (via Zoom and Skype), while Pan began to take a different, creative direction.
